Well, there is an economic factor in this. Liberal people are moire likely to live in big cities where the cost of living precludes having large families, or even families of any size. And they are often tied there by their careers (the work-from-home boomlet is slowly withering on the vine as corporate CEOs demand office attendance). Conservative voters skew rural and small town, places where it's still possible to afford three or four kids, and where you might find a real and effective "village" to help raise them.
