The narrative about Finland’s Lutheran Church is often misunderstood. While 62% of Finns belong to the Lutheran Church, it is not a "state church" policing religious thought in the country. You confused us with Iran here; it's another country further East.

Finland has blasphemy laws, but they are outdated, debated, and rarely enforced. Instead, the penal code protects religious expressions and "peace of faith."

Our media outlet, a Christian moderat Liberal biweekly, reported the Räsänen Supreme Court verdict as a noteworthy case, not a celebration. The verdict, a 92-paragraph document, was balanced. It, nota bene, acquitted Räsänen for her religious expressions and Bible quotes. However, it ruled against her for claiming homosexuality is a medical "developmental disorder", based on outdated 1960s diagnostics, which was seen as more serious due to her roles as both a doctor and a Member of Parliament.

Keep an eye on Canada’s Bill C-9. Same things happening there.
