Here is my profound take on the drone-mania storm
Actually, all I know is that this drama shows -- again -- that Americans don't trust establishment media
Well, we are still here. There hasn’t been an apocalypse yet, at least not one that is worthy of ink in the local papers here in deep, dark “flyover country.”
Ah, but New Jersey is rather close to New York City and the “drones” coverage is — I just checked — stashed away in the inside pages of The New York Times. There’s quite a bit of coverage in the populist New York Post, but that isn’t a surprise.
Quite a few commentators are offering variations on this logical take, asking how officials can keep saying (a) we don’t know what these things are, but (b) there’s nothing to worry about. OK, if they don’t know what these strange lights are, then how do they know that they aren’t dangerous?
My friend Rod “Living in Wonder” Dreher had this to say in his daily Substack newsletter:
Another day no closer to figuring out what the mass drones manifestations are. The US Government says it doesn’t know what they are, but that people shouldn’t be afraid, because they don’t pose a threat. But yesterday, the agencies gave members of Congress a classified briefing about the matter. So, somehow this phenomenon that is unexplained but harmless also merits a classified briefing for Congress. Hmm.
Truth be told, I don’t have anything profound to offer about the nature of these strange lights in the skies (including those over U.S. military facilities). However, I do want to ask Rational Sheep readers these questions: Where are you going for news (that you trust) about this story? What sources or evidence could newsroom leaders offer that would inspire trust for you?
Hold that thought.
I am reading quite a bit of material about all of this (helped by an engineer son who has reasons to be curious). Thus, I offer this somewhat snarky list of answers to The Big Question: What are these mysterious things that people keep seeing?
Here are some options (some with my own annotations).
* Angels or demons? Enough said.
* UFOs or, to use the bland new catch phrase, “unidentified aerial phenomena”? For most folks, this means vehicles linked to aliens from other words, solar systems or dimensions. Think “Avengers” stuff.
* Wonky drones created by science nerds from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology or some other elite source?
* Military equipment used by Iran? Maybe terrorists from Iran are trying to get some kind of military testing done before Orange Man Bad returns to the White House?
* How about military or spymasters from China, testing some kind of super-drone alternatives to their high-altitude balloon work in 2023? Maybe they are trying to intimidate members of America’s leadership class, warning them not to get involved if China decides to grab Taiwan?
* What if it’s American technology, maybe Space Force or Air Force assets being tested (with warning lights aglow for some strange reason)?
* Maybe these are U.S. military or Deep State drones and they are involved in PSYOPS operations to test how American citizens will respond to the mass deployment of this kind of equipment in a genuine emergency?
* OK, I can read the social-media tea leaves, too.
