Jeff Bezos tells readers: You don't own me
With the Washington Post in freefall, its owner thinks twice about preaching to the choir
Did anyone else notice that, at the end of the newsroom rattling Jeff Bezos op-ed about his decision not to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, a Washington Post copy editor ran an interesting explainer note?
That blurb’s headline: “About guest opinion submissions.”
I have to admit that I chuckled at that. Bezos is the owner of the newspaper, but the odds are good that many of his employees now consider him an unwelcome guest.
In the world of D.C. Beltway mind games, folks want to know why Bezos did what he did. Here are a few theories on that.
* Candidate Kamala is toast and Bezos has research that shows that. Thus, a nervous breakdown in the openly pro-Harris newsroom.
* The Post owner bowed the knee and signalled his willingness to work, somehow, with Donald Trump 2.0, should that fever dream come to pass. Thus, the fury in the Orange Man Bad newsroom.
