Yes, Brett Cooper talks way too fast
But her dive into the "strict TikTok mom" wars is worth a time byte, especially for mothers with teens
I am old. Thus, I do not have TikTok on any of my six or more (I lose count) Apple devices. Do iPods still count? I have two or three of those, since I still buy music from the fine musicians that I want to support. That’s how old I am.
Moving on. We will also save the international politics and espionage swirling around TikTok for another day. However, I need a fast post since I am rushing out the door on family business, heading into a back corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains where it’s hard to find reliable WiFi.
Speaking of “fast” and “online,” this brings me to digital star Brett Cooper and some must-watch video material for Rational Sheep supporters.
Now I realize that, for some people of a certain age, listening the voice of this high-energy actress and Daily Wire digital-media influencer is rather like hearing the screeching sounds that folks used to hear when a fax machine connected.
Cooper talks very, very, very fast.
It’s hard to imagine what it would sound like if she did a podcast and listeners who want to save time could click that button that speeds up the audio 1.5x or more. Yikes. On top of that, the producers of her popular YouTube Channel — “The Comments Section” — edit her super-tight videos to rush by like an old-school Janet Jackson music video (here’s a slow one).
In this case, it’s hard to imagine something much more ironic than a young, popular, omnipresent social-media influencer doing social-media videos praising the “strict TikTok mom” — her name is Jeanette Tapley — whose smiling, but fierce, warnings about the dangers of social media have ignited a viral firestorm in social media.
Read that again. It’s kind of a Zen thing.
But these “strict mom” debates are important. It’s also interesting to note that the 22-year-old Cooper is already married (#gasp), which is controversial to some people.
Dare I suggest that parents, pastors, teachers and counselors may need to grit their teeth and watch these two videos?
Please do. Watch “Is She Wrong?” at the top of this post and then “Controversial?” — a follow-up that even includes some interesting clips of a superstar media mom or two describing their attempts to slow the social-media train with their own children, in their own homes.
What we need is a button that allows old listeners to SLOW DOWN the audio on Brett Cooper videos, creating a voice that might sound something like the late, great Suzanne Pleshette (best known for the “The Bob Newhart Show”).
Wait, you don’t know what Pleshette’s voice sounded like? Watch this — one of the greatest moments in the history of television.
I just tried adjusting playback speed on the YouTube in question. Click on the gear symbol for Settings, and a control panel should pop up and offer other speeds. The first time I tried didn't work, but after finding it worked on a different video it worked the next time I tried. We've done the same thing for Ben Shapiro audio speeds.
