Matthew Namee was on a Fr Andrew Damick youtube video recently talking about statistics of new converts to the Orthodox Church.. One takeaway... Couples and single men are coming, not so much the women.

This is a subject I am very concerned about. Our bishops need to see how this links into the marriage formation crisis.

Bravo on questioning the methodology of the news and for the 90% number. Perhaps it was 90% who at respected religion. Remember Sunday mornings 50 years ago? Everything was closed and quiet/ Remember church bells/well before atheists had them silenced….

When did "atheists" silence church bells? Some churches I know of still have bells-- or electronic bell systems. In Baltimore the Catholic Basilica and also St. Leo's in Little Italy was still ringing their bells daily for the Angelus when I last lived there (I moved in 2023). On Easter Eve (when we Orthodox customarily do our Easter liturgy) Orthodox churches I've attended in several place still peals their bells or carillons, with a special permit from local authorities to excuse them from nocturnal noise regulations (and generally the neighborhood is told a few days in advance of this).

There have been lawsuits in this. Do a basic search. The issue with local govts is NOISE and offense to others.

I see a lawsuit in Germany. And one in Rhode Island that was laughed out of court (the guy claimed his marriage failed due to church bells tolling). And a federal court decision that church bells are a constitutionally protected exercise of First Amendment rights.

Sounds right. The harassment lawsuits have no chance. I think there have been zoning issues in other places.
